Italian shipping line to launch new Mediterranean route linking Libya, Spain and France

Italian shipping company Messina Line is set to launch a new maritime route, named the West Med Line, in the western Mediterranean this September, connecting Libya with Spain, France, Italy and Algeria along a single service.

The rotation will call at the Libyan ports of Misrata and Tripoli, alongside Castellón and Barcelona in Spain, Fos in France, Genoa in Italy, and Algiers, before returning to Castellón. Departures from the Spanish and French ports will run roughly every ten days.

The company said the service consolidates its previously separate Algeria and Libya routes into a single network, strengthening its presence in the region and cutting transit times for cargo arriving via the Suez Canal through calls at Misrata.

The first sailing departs Castellón on 6 September aboard the 724-TEU vessel M/V Libertas H, followed by a second rotation on 17 September aboard the Pacific Dalian, a 698-TEU vessel with reefer capacity, which previously served the Libya route.
