Sharara oil field loses 230,000 barrels after valve shutdown in Hamada region
A valve in Libya's Hamada region, which links the Sharara oil field to Zawiya oil port, was shut in the early hours of Monday, triggering a sharp drop in production.
The closure took place shortly after midnight between Sunday and Monday. By 2:15pm on Monday, the field's output had fallen 68.7 per cent to 105,000 barrels a day, down from 335,000 barrels before the valve was shut.
Production is currently being diverted to the Mellitah complex via an alternative pipeline, with 105,000 barrels flowing through that route. Sharara has lost a total of 230,000 barrels of output over the past several hours, after pressure from the valve closures forced a number of stations offline.
No group had claimed responsibility for the shutdown as of 2:00pm on Monday.
