Libya begins enforcing east-west ban on imports outside banking channels

A ban on importing goods outside official banking channels and entry points came into force on Wednesday, as matching decisions issued by the economy ministries of the Government of National Unity and the eastern-based Libyan government earlier this month took effect simultaneously in both the west and east of the country.
The decisions exempt small traders and individual businesses, sparing them the requirement where the value of imported goods does not exceed $100,000 per shipment or on a cumulative basis.
